Process
This mural was commissioned by Vintage on Selby Apartments to celebrate their local community and neighborhood. They wanted this piece of public art to reflect their neighborhood and offer a nod to both vintage Selby at Snelling as well as the vibrancy of Selby at Snelling today. To achieve this, I incorporated images that reflected the area's history, while also adding vibrant, bold colors and art to reflect the neighborhood in the modern day.
Execution
We incorporated a paint day during a neighborhood festival to involve the community in this mural. Community members helped us paint the first layer of this vibrant mural. We had many paintbrushes and paint on hand for everyone. We facilitated the painting so both young and old could participate. It generated so much interest within the community. It was a great event.
Detail
To achieve both old and new, I used a traditional realistic painting style with simple graphic and bold patterning, mixing black and white with bold color.
