Lake Street and 35W Metro Transit Station

For this project, I was commissioned by Metro Transit to enhance the 35W and Lake Street North and South Stations in Minneapolis, Minnesota, through the creation of two large-scale murals. These murals, strategically placed on the station's pillars and hide walls, utilize its unique architectural elements as a canvas. The artwork captures the energy and vibrancy of Lake Street, featuring native bird species set against bold color palettes.
The project was a true community collaboration. I worked alongside a team of local apprentices who helped bring this artistic vision to life. Additionally, Stacia Goodman Mosaics contributed by integrating shimmering mosaic elements into the bird wings, adding texture and depth to the design. As part of the community engagement effort, we organized a paint day during Lake Street's Open Streets event, where residents were invited to contribute directly to the mural. This event fostered a sense of connection and pride, making the artwork a reflection of the community it represents.
The completed murals now enhance the Metro Transit station, transforming it into a more engaging, welcoming, and vibrant environment for commuters and visitors alike.
